Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the way we handle data in Excel. With AI tools, you can analyze data faster and more accurately than ever before. In this blog post, I'll guide you through using Powerdrill, an AI-powered data analysis tool, to quickly understand, analyze, and visualize your Excel data in just two simple steps. This will save you time and effort without compromising accuracy in your Excel analysis.

Why Powerdrill?

Before we dive into using AI with Excel, it's important to choose the right tool. With so many options out there, why did I choose Powerdrill AI for this blog? Here's why:

  • User-friendly: Powerdrill's clean interface, complete with a conversational bar, makes it easy to use. It also offers various preset tools like Word to Slides and the AI Data Report Generator for quick analysis.

  • Automatic data visualization: When working with Excel data, Powerdrill helps generate insightful visuals effortlessly.

  • Cost-effective: Powerdrill is 5 times cheaper than competitors like Julius AI and ChatGPT, making it a budget-friendly option.

Now, let's see how we can master Excel with the help of AI. By integrating AI features, we can boost our data analysis efficiency. As I promised in the title, you'll only need 2 simple steps!

Step 1. Upload your Excel files

After signing in to Powerdrill (yes, you'll need to sign in first), I need to first upload my files.

The dataset I'm using comes from Kaggle. If you're interested, feel free to download it and follow along. You can also browse the Discover channel provided by Powerdrill to find one that interest you.

To help you understand the follow-up conversations I'll be having with Powerdrill, here's a quick introduction to the dataset:

Name: goibibo_flights_data.xlsx

Description: This file contains detailed information about domestic flights in India for the period of July to August 2023.

Columns:

  • flight_date: The date of the flight in YYYY-MM-DD format.

  • airline: Name of the airline operating the flight.

  • flight_num: The flight number.

  • class: Travel class (e.g., economy, business).

  • from: Departure city.

  • dep_time: Scheduled departure time.

  • to: Arrival city.

  • arr_time: Scheduled arrival time.

  • duration: Total duration of the flight in hours and minutes.

  • price: Ticket price in Indian Rupees (INR).

  • stops: Number of stops (e.g., non-stop, 1-stop).

The dataset is structured to facilitate analysis of flight durations, prices, and other travel patterns, making it suitable for research and exploration of the Indian domestic aviation market.

Step 2. Converse with your Excel data

Let's start with a question Powerdrill recommends.

"What is the price range for economy class flights compared to business class flights?"

Economy Class Price Range:

  • Minimum Price: The minimum price for economy class flights is $1,116.

  • Maximum Price: The maximum price for economy class flights is $42,772.

Business Class Price Range:

  • Minimum Price: The minimum price for business class flights is $12,180.

  • Maximum Price: The maximum price for business class flights is $124,917.

Pretty nice, right? Let's try another one. The answer is well-organized and insightful.

"What is the distribution of flight prices across different airlines?"

Instead of just providing the answer, Powerdrill also generates a graph to help visualize the results.

The box plot showcases the distribution of flight prices across different airlines, summarized by key metrics: mean price, median price, minimum price, maximum price, and standard deviation (std dev) of the prices.
