What Hex is built for

The product shape is a notebook. The notebooks page calls them agentic notebooks and invites you to "combine code, no-code, queries, and visuals in a flexible notebook."

That page is specific about the technical surface. It lists a first-class SQL editor with Jinja support, a dbt integration, a schema browser, and typeahead.

Python and R sit beside SQL in the same document. Hex calls this "IDE-class Python and R" with integrated package management.

There is a no-code path too, and Hex says it supports exploration "without queries, code, or any technical requirements."

The architectural commitment is the interesting part. Hex pushes work down to the warehouse, naming Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, Databricks, and dbt on the same page.

Now apply it to your situation. If your data lives in Snowflake and your team writes SQL, that architecture is a genuine advantage.

If your data arrived this morning as an .xlsx attachment, the same architecture describes the thing you are trying to avoid needing.

What Powerdrill Bloom is built for

Two structural differences hide inside those numbers.

First, Hex prices per editor. Every person who builds pays a seat, and Enterprise adds a separate explorer seat for viewers.
