Young and out of school

Description

Explores UNICEF's dataset on out-of-school children

Summary

According to United Nations Population Division, 'World Population Prospects 2017', the global youth population is growing rapidly, and if current trends hold, the number of adolescents aged between 10 and 19 years old will rise to more than 1.3 billion by 2030, an increase of 8 percent from today.

Many individuals in low and lower-middle-income countries lack access to quality education. Without investment, this could lead to an increase in unskilled youth unable to embrace new technology and tackle the challenges of a changing global economy.

By acting now, we can achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by getting every child and young person in school and learning by 2030.

For this month's #EduVizzers challenge, we will be exploring a dataset from UNICEF about the out-of-school children rate - the percentage of children or young people in the official age range for a given level of education who are not attending either primary, lower secondary, or upper secondary levels of education.
