Claude Duet: Morning Briefs, Waitlist Access, and Alternatives (2026)

Claude Duet is a new app from Anthropic where Claude works as a proactive agent. It sends a morning brief, takes tasks by message, and asks before it acts. Anthropic opened a research preview on October 21, 2026, by waitlist, for Pro and Max subscribers in the US.

This guide covers what Anthropic announced and what Claude Duet hands back. It explains how the agent works, who can get in, and what it costs. The last sections cover its limits and the main alternatives. Every detail comes from Anthropic's pages and other vendors' pages, read on October 22, 2026.

What Anthropic announced on October 21

The announcement post is titled "Introducing Claude Duet." Its subtitle sets the terms of access: "A research preview is available by waitlist today, starting with US Pro and Max subscribers."

The post then describes what makes Duet different from a chat window. It says Duet "comes to you with what needs your attention" and "completes tasks you ask of it." It also "keeps working even when you step away," and it "checks with you before it acts on your behalf."

Anthropic also names the audience. "We built Claude Duet for professionals and small business owners with more on their plates than they can track."

The Claude release notes carry the same news under October 21. The entry says Anthropic "just opened a research preview for users on Pro and Max plans." It calls Duet "a new app where Claude works as a proactive agent."

The product page adds the model. It reads "Powered by Opus 5.5. Available in Pro and Max plans in the US."

What Duet does: morning briefs and finished work

Duet has two jobs. One is telling you what needs attention. The other is doing work you hand it.

The morning brief. The announcement says "Each morning, it sends you a short brief on the most important items across your connected apps." The product page puts it more simply: "Claude Duet briefs you every morning, drafts next steps, then goes quiet until something needs you."

Tasks of all sizes. The post lists small and large tasks side by side. Duet can schedule meetings. It can also take on "building dashboards with dozens of tools, creating financial or sales forecasts, prototyping, and building web apps."

Finished files. The product FAQ describes the output in concrete terms. Duet "returns finished work like a doc, sheet, or deck for your review." Another answer adds "It can put together a brief, deck, or dashboard too."

The product page also shows a sample business dashboard. In the demo, a user asks for one page to check each morning. Duet pulls from point of sale, Shopify, a CRM, a support inbox, payroll, and the bank. It then builds a board that refreshes before the next brief.

Business admin. The FAQ lists work from running a small company. It names "finding unpaid invoices and drafting the reminders, preparing payroll for you to review, and getting contracts ready to send."

How Duet works

The announcement explains the design in four parts.

It starts from your Claude account. Duet carries over memory, skills, and connected apps from Claude. You message it by typing or voice in one ongoing thread. A quick reply and a weeklong project start in the same place.

It runs on its own computer. Duet has a virtual machine with its own browser. Your laptop or phone does not need to stay on. You describe a task, and Duet picks the apps and steps in the background.

It checks in on a schedule. Duet "checks your connected accounts every few hours". Anthropic says checking nonstop would drain plan limits much faster. You can tell it what you want to hear about and how often.

Important decisions stay with you. Before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document, or deletes anything, it shows the action and waits. The post adds that "A few things are off-limits even with your approval, like trading securities or moving money between accounts."

The product FAQ sums up the difference from the main app. "The Claude app waits for you to open a chat, and you work on something alongside Claude. Claude Duet comes to you."

Connectors and payments

Duet can use "the over 6,000 connectors and plugins in the Claude Marketplace". The post gives examples:

  • "Check Intuit QuickBooks or Stripe for unpaid invoices and draft reminders."
  • "Prepare and run payroll in Gusto, with hours, bonuses, and reimbursements filled in."
  • Draft follow-up emails using contact and deal history in HubSpot.
  • Turn a product launch into a social campaign in Canva.

For purchases, Duet uses Link, Stripe's digital wallet. Link asks you to approve the spend, then pays with a virtual card. Duet can also check out with Shop Pay.

Safety checks

Anthropic says Duet's credential handling follows its Managed Agents design, so the agent "never directly sees your passwords or sign-in tokens." It also ships "a new dedicated classifier and safety system prompt that checks each message and guards against leaks of sensitive information." That classifier blocks the strictest tier of data, such as card numbers and government IDs.

What was already there before

Duet builds on several Claude features that shipped earlier. Three matter most.

Cowork in every conversation. On September 16, 2026, the release notes described a new Claude experience. Users can "Ask a quick question or hand Claude a bigger task, like a report, spreadsheet, or presentation, without choosing a mode first."

Design, Slides, and Docs. The same entry added creation tools inside any conversation. It says "Artifacts, including Claude Design, Claude Slides, and Claude Docs, are available on every plan, including Free." Our Claude Slides guide covers the deck side.

Memory, skills, and connectors. These already lived in the Claude app. Duet reuses them, so setup takes little work.

So the October 21 change is not a new set of file types. It is a new way of working: Duet reaches out first, runs in the background, and messages you when work is ready.

Who can get Claude Duet and what it costs

The product FAQ answers both questions in two sentences. "Claude Duet is a research preview on a waitlist for Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the US. Team and Enterprise plans are not included yet."

There is no separate price. Duet comes with a Claude plan. Anthropic's pricing page listed these individual plans on October 22, 2026:

Plan Price on the pricing page Duet access
Free $0 Not included
Pro $17 per month with annual billing ($200 billed up front), or $20 billed monthly Waitlist, US only
Max From $100 per month, with 5x or 20x more usage than Pro Waitlist, US only
Team and Enterprise Per-seat pricing Not included yet

Usage is shared. The post says "Its background checks count toward those limits." It adds that larger tasks, "like building a financial model or a deck, require more model turns and background work." A heavy week with Duet can leave less room for regular Claude chats.

How to join the waitlist and start

The steps below come from Anthropic's announcement and product page. Your screens may differ during the preview.

  1. Check your plan. You need Claude Pro or Max, on an account in the US.
  2. Join the waitlist. Use the "Join the waitlist" button on the product page. Anthropic says it will email you when Duet is ready for you.
  3. Install the app. The FAQ says "Claude Duet is a standalone app for iOS and Android. On a computer, you can open it on the web at claude.ai."
  4. Review your connectors. Duet inherits the apps you connected in Claude. Remove any you do not want it to watch.
  5. Set your preferences. Tell Duet what you want to hear about and how often.
  6. Start with one task. Ask for a single brief or a single dashboard first. Check the result before you hand over recurring work.

Limits to know before you rely on it

Anthropic lists several limits of the research preview itself.

  • It can misjudge urgency. The FAQ warns that "it can miss something that arrives between checking in with you."
  • Personal errands are weaker. Anthropic says Duet was built around work, so tasks like booking tickets are not as strong yet.
  • You cannot watch its browser yet. The post says Duet cannot show you its browser for now.
  • It is a separate app. Duet lives apart from the main Claude app during the preview.
  • Usage limits are shared. Background checks and large tasks draw on the same plan limits.
  • Access is narrow. Only US Pro and Max users can join, and Team and Enterprise plans are excluded.

On safety, the approval step covers sending, paying, signing, and deleting. Reading and drafting happen on their own. Decide which connected accounts you are comfortable letting an agent read every few hours.

Claude Duet alternatives

Several products now run an agent in the background and come back with finished work. The table lists four, with access as each vendor describes it on October 22, 2026.

Option What it does in the background Access, per the vendor
Grok Bot Persistent bots on cloud computers that return documents and data Included on X Subscription Premium ($30/month), Super, and Ultra
Meta Muse A personal agent on mobile, Mac, and WhatsApp Free with a usage limit; paid subscription for more
Perplexity Computer A digital worker that researches, creates documents, and runs on a schedule Active Perplexity subscription; Max includes monthly credits
Powerdrill Bloom Scheduled analysis runs on your data that deliver finished reports Free $0.00; Pro $13.27/mo

Grok Bot comes from SpaceXSI. Its documentation says "Grok Bot is included on Premium, Super, and Ultra plans." Our Grok Bot guide covers its artifacts and enterprise controls.

Meta Muse is aimed at personal life as much as work. Meta's FAQ says "Muse is available for free with a usage limit." See our Meta Muse for Mac guide for the desktop app.

Perplexity Computer is Perplexity's autonomous worker. Its help page says "Computer is available to users with an active subscription." It also says "Max subscribers receive 10,000 credits monthly". Our Perplexity Computer Automations guide covers its scheduled runs.

Where a data analysis agent fits

Claude Duet is built to watch your inbox, calendar, and business apps, and to tell you what needs you. Some recurring work is narrower. A weekly sales report or a month-end cash view needs the same analysis on fresh data, with every figure traced to a source.

That is the job Powerdrill Bloom is built for. Its homepage calls it "The AI data analyst that shows its work." It adds "Every number comes back with the page, the row and the figure behind it."

Its Scheduled Agent covers the recurring part. The changelog says "Every run finishes on schedule and delivers the results to your workspace, so the report is already waiting when you get there." Runs can be daily, on weekdays, weekly, or monthly.

For the dashboards and forecasts Duet mentions, two tool pages show the analysis side. The AI Finance Dashboard Builder builds a CFO scorecard, a P&L board, and a cash board from accounting exports. The AI Forecasting Tool projects revenue or demand "with confidence bands and seasonality".

On price, the pricing page lists a Free plan at $0.00 with 1 scheduled task. Pro is $13.27/mo and includes 20 scheduled tasks.

The two can work side by side. Let Duet handle the inbox, calendar, and approvals. Run the recurring numbers where each figure has a source. To compare, try Powerdrill Bloom with one export you report on every week.
